Councillor Vacancies

Yapton Parish Council has three vacancies for Parish Councillors which are to be filled by co-option.

Following the recent local elections, 7 candidates were nominated to fill 10 seats on the Yapton Parish Council. Under Electoral Law the Parish Council can now fill the remaining three seats by co-option to the Council.

To qualify, a person must be a British subject or citizen of the Irish Republic, over 18 years of age and an elector, must reside within the parish of Yapton, or within 3 miles of it, or occupy as owner or tenant any land or premises therein, or have their principal or only place of work there, and must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor (details from the Clerk).

Any person wishing to serve as a Parish Councillor should apply by completing an Application Form which will require details of interests, experience and reasons for wishing to serve on the Parish Council.

Further details of eligibility, vacancy procedures, guidance on being a Parish Councillor are available from the Clerk.

Interviews are planned to take place on an evening in the weeks commencing 24th June or 1st July 2019.

Those selected for co-option to the Council will be confirmed by the Council at its meeting on the 8th July 2019 and will be able to participate in the meeting immediately.
